Marbella. What to do?

Capital of the Costa del Sol.

Marbella, cosmopolitan town that still keeps narrow whitewashed streets and balconies full of flowers, witnesses of a muslim past. Today it’s an exclusive touristic destination with a world-recognised prestige. Marbella is known due to the many celebrities or VIP that come, thanks to its marvellous weather, they decide to fix their residence here (King Fad from Saudi Arabia, Julio Iglesias, Sean Connery, Antonio Banderas, etc.). Puerto Banús is also the window of the international jet-set, world famous for its exciting night life.

At the foot of «la Concha Peak» and protected by «Sierra Blanca Mountain Range» we find this welcoming and cheerful locality, enjoying a special miroclimate.

Best place if you want to feel in a modern city that still keeps a beautiful old quarter where tasting some of the typical spanish tapas and wines!

Things to Do in Marbella – The 10 things you must do:

One: Plaza de los Naranjos, Old Town. Always Marbella Old Town. Marbella Old Town or Casco Antiguo is my sweetest memory and my favorite dream, a place where I would love to live for the rest of my life. Stretching around the lovely Plaza de las Naranjas (Orange Square), an atmosphere that seems to turn this place into a pleasure for all senses, a genuine delight. The charming Old Town boasts some of the loveliest narrow streets I’ve ever strolled, fenced by serene white buildings adorned with tiny flowered balconies and ground-floor stylish boutiques. The best place in the whole Costa del Sol for getting and try a tapas tour around his old town.

Two: Puerto Banus. Many of you must have heard Puerto Banus, that’s basically where all the fun happens. It’s a beautiful port full of restaurants and clubs. A must-do tourist attraction for anyone wishing to experience the full Marbella atmosphere. Puerto Banus is part of Marbella, but it’s 10km away from the city centre.  See and be seen in Puerto Banus with its marina, boutiques and restaurants.

Three: Escape to Sierra Blanca, Marbella Mountain. Enjoy hiking, take a trek in Sierra Blanca, the mountain backdrop to Marbella, very close to Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park. Choose from a range of trails from easy to some seriously tough climbing ones. Best plan for spending an excursion day of your vacations, that’s it: enjoying nature.

Four: Trip/Travel to any of our Pueblos Blancos (white villages): Istán, Ojén, Casares o Mijas. All of them keeping traditions alive but embedded in a modern region where to enjoy unspoiled natural areas.

Five: Sightseeing to local museums like; Bonsai, del Grabado, Romam ruins, get a guided tour around the 6th century Basilica in San Pedro, some of Spain’s earliest Byzantine ruins. And then there’s the Roman Villa in Rio Verde, the Roman Baths in Guadalmina…

Six:  Stroll along the seafront promenade in Marbella at sunset. If you’re feeling energetic, got the whole way. And then back. Marbella city centre is connected to Puerto Banus by the famous Paseo Maritimo, a coastline walkaway which is just spectacular. You will get stunning views of Marbella’s beautiful coastline. I recommend doing this walk, and bringing your beach gear with you.

Seven:  Have a typical spanish paella at one of the several Chiringuitos along the seafront.

Eight: Pescaito (Fish) at fishing port. A dish of the local delicacy, pescaíto frito (fried small fish), preferably next to the fisher harbour. And don’t forget to ask for an espeto (stick of sardines) too.

Nine: Go out for a drink to Puerto Deportivo  and dance all night at one of the beach clubs in Marbella.

Ten: Check out bargains! Mondays at the main market in Marbella (at the east end of town) and Saturdays (in Nueva Andalucia near the bullring).
